About jamia-milia-islamia

jamia Millia Islamia, originally established in Aligarh in the United Provinces, India, in 1920, underwent a significant transformation to become a Central University through an act of the Indian Parliament in 1988. Since then, Jamia has continued to evolve as an academic institution with distinct characteristics.
Here are some key milestones in its growth:
1. Faculty Expansion:
• Over the years, various faculties have been established, reflecting the university’s commitment to a diverse range of academic disciplines. These include the faculties of Humanities and Languages, Natural Sciences, Social Science, and the State Resource Centre.
2. Specialized Centers:
• In 1983, the university initiated the Mass Communication Research Centre and the Centre for Coaching and Career Planning, demonstrating a commitment to specialized areas of study and student support.
3. Expansion into Engineering and Technology:
• In 1985, the Faculty of Engineering & Technology and the University Computer Centre were established, marking a significant step toward providing education in the field of engineering.
4. Academic Enhancements:
• In 1987 and 1988, the Academic Staff College and the Academy of Third World Studies were added, further enriching the academic offerings and research focus of the university.
5. Introduction of Faculty of Law:
• In 1989, a new Faculty of Law was introduced, expanding the educational opportunities available at Jamia Millia Islamia.
6. Diversification of Courses:
• The university responded to evolving educational needs by introducing numerous new courses and programs at both the undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) levels.
